Kids end up getting nicknames in all kinds of ways, but sometimes, as LilSugar points out, those nicknames are based on their appearance. When I was growing up, the little girl across the street called me "Freckleface Strawberry" and I did not like it at all.
Other kids in my grade school were called Red, Big Al, Little Al, and Bucky. The weird thing is, these kids all answered to their respective nicknames for years, and it never seemed to bother them. But who knows how they felt on the inside?
And sometimes looks-related nicknames don't come from peers but from brothers and sisters, and even parents.
What do you think about nicknames based on your kid's appearance? Do you think there's a difference between nicknames and name calling?
