A new book called Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading (by Lizzie Skurnick) explores one author's favorite young adult books. The author re-reads these teen classics and writes about how they affected her as an adolescent and now as an adult.
Some of the books mentioned in the collection include:
- A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'engle
- Harriet the Spy, by Louise Fitzhugh
- Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, by Judy Blume
- Daughters of Eve, by Lois Duncan
My favorite teen classic is Blubber (also by Judy Blume). What's your favorite classic young adult book?

Oh, I loved A Wrinkle in Time! Wasn't that part of a series? My childhood favorite has to be the Chronicles of Narnia though.
I absolutely loved The Giver and To Kill A Mockingbird.
Was never a huge fan of Judy Blume but maybe I should reread it to see if its changed as an adult?
I loved a wrinkle in time, the chronicles of Narnia, and most especialy The dark is rising series. Coupled by the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew (who most def. was NOT a little 13 yr. old girl).
Are You There God, Its Me Margaret was a great book.
However, when I was a teen I loved Little Women and the Sweet Valley High series of books.
The Box Car Children!
I love reading that and anything by R.L Stine!
I love A Wrinkle in Time and I kind of want to go get it and read it now. I think the last time I read it, I was in 6th grade. I also loved anything by Judy Blume. Gosh, how great it was to just be able top pick up a book and read it without anyone bugging you for snacks or juice or where did you put my keys or when is dinner. Maybe you should do a story on that. hee hee
I loved Baby Sitters Club, and RL Stine's Fear Street books
lol the baby siters club
L. M. Montgomery is my favorite. I'm about to finish reading the Anne series to my 13 year old. I don't now if we will do the Emily series next, or Chronicles of Narnia.
