Is Your Teen As Spoiled As This Kid?

Have you seen the video of the spoiled teen who has a meltdown after his parents give him a beat-up truck for his birthday?

(If this video is, in fact, real), I was completely shocked and disturbed watching this 16-year-old attack his birthday present with a baseball bat while yelling "You guys are gonna make me look like frickin' poor kid in front of all my friends."

Yikes!

Many moms in the Advice for Moms group had a similar reaction to the spoiled teen. But some commenters said that they weren't surprised—that ungrateful behavior is typical of many teens these days who think they are entitled to nice cars, cell phones, televisions, laptops, etc., not to mention the best food, clothing, shelter, etc.

Do you agree? What things—if any—does your teen think they are entitled to get?

If this is at all true (and not some stupid staged prank), then the kid's just ungrateful. I didn't get my own car till like 21 and I bought it myself. Yeah, it does need a paint job, but if that's the case he can get a job and go for it.

As for those saying all the cars for the household are nicer - yeah, they are. But nobody knows the stories behind those cars. Most likely all the people who own those cars HAVE A JOB to pay for them - hence if he wants one like that he'll have to get a job and work towards saving for one.

This video has in fact been debunked as a few minutes of research would have told you. There are several videos on YT that feature this kid having full-on meltdowns and a video montage that features his mother confirming that the whole string of videos is in fact fake. The entire family was helping this kid make these videos - according to the mother they were HIS idea. A better subject for discussion might be WHY any parents would have thought that a video like this was in any way funny - the statement about "making me look like a poor kid" was snotty classism/elitism at it's worst and should not have been tolerated by the kid's parents, even in (supposed) jest. I remember the uproar that surrounded Michael Jackson's video for the song "Smooth Criminal" which featured him smashing up a car with a baseball bat. At the time, now about twenty years ago, people were worried that kids might emulate him. A lot of others said "no way, it's just a video kids don't run out and do everything they see in videos or on TV". Well, yeah, kids do emulate what they see. Twenty years ago I wouldn't have believed I'd be saying what I just wrote. But yeah, the MTV generation is hitting adulthood. Han on; it's going to be a wild ride!
