The Best Kids' Books Ever?

Kim Conte

If you had to make a list of the best children's books of all time, what would be on it?

A columnist in New York recently offered a list of what he thinks are the best kids' books ever. Sure, it's a good place to start, but I think he's missing a bunch:

  1. Charlotte's Web
  2. The Hardy Boys series
  3. Wind in the Willows
  4. The Freddy the Pig series
  5. The Alex Rider series
  6. The Harry Potter series
  7. Gentle Ben
  8. Anne of Green Gables
  9. The Dog Who Wouldn't Be
  10. Little Lord Fauntleroy
  11. On to Oregon
  12. The Prince and the Pauper
  13. Lad, a Dog

Where's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Island of the Blue Dolphins, and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle? And how can you have a list of the best children's books without Ramona the Pest?

What do you think he's missing? What would be on your list of best kids' books?
