Disturbing. Today, YahooNews posted a story about "time-out rooms" in schools, and cited an instance where an 8-year-old autistic girl was placed in a converted storage area under a staircase, and left alone for three hours. There's more.
She actually wet herself before she was allowed to leave--and all because she failed to finish a reading assignment. Ultimately, her parents removed her from the school district and filed a lawsuit. According to the report, there is an increasing trend of school time-out rooms, or simply put, isolation areas for kids that act up. Some education professionals are calling it a form of abuse, but apparently, there are other educators that believe this form of punishment is effective. What do you think about time-out rooms in schools? Has your child ever been subjected to something like this?
