In honor of Autism Awareness Month, AMC Entertainment and the Autism Society of America is offering Hannah Montana: The Movie as part of their Sensory Friendly Films program. Mark your calendars; the hugely popular film will be shown at 67 different AMC movie theatres nationwide on April 18. Awesome!
Specifically to address the sensory issues many children with autism experience, AMC is keeping the lights on and the sound turned down. Families are encouraged to bring their own snacks, and even if your kid decides to stand up and shout--no one will be saying shhh to him!

I heard about AMC theatres doing this. Bravo! My son has said to me that he likes certain movies because they don't hurt his ears. He was about 5 before we could take him to the movies. Between the noise and his short attention span, it wasn't a good experience for any of us.
That is awesome that they are doing that! I hope that more of them continue to do so.
I wish they had one close to us, but they don't. It would be awesome since 5 of my 12 are on the autism spectrum. I have kids with other disabilities too. We manage to do movies as long as both of us are available in case someone can't make it through, but it would be nice to go where another kid might need to stand up too.
