There are many different ways to make a family. And, sometimes, the most beautiful bonds are the most unexpected. When Grant asked his girlfriend Cassandra to be his wife, he wasn't promising just to love her until death do them part; he also made a commitment to Cassandra's 5-year-old daughter, Adrianna, by way of a touching proposal to the little girl -- asking to be her dad -- that will truly melt your heart.

  • Cassandra and Grant's love story is giving the Internet major feels.

The pair have been together since late last year, but Cassandra reveals in a guest post on the How He Asked website that the couple's road to "I do" was anything but smooth. After she randomly found Grant on Facebook -- and later discovering the two had mutual friends -- the couple had to contend with a four-and-a-half-hour distance between them and all the challenges that come with dating when you're a single parent. But, Cassandra says the challenges only made their bond stronger.

"The past six and a half months haven't been a walk in the park, but with all the life challenges that were brought our way we have only come out stronger and more in love with one another," the Indiana mom writes in her post. "I have gotten to witness an attractive, charming bachelor become a positive, loving and utterly the most selfless father to my little girl."

  • Even though she felt they were "getting closer and closer to the next step," Cassandra had no idea Grant was going to propose.

"The week of the engagement, [Grant] had one of my girlfriends set up some time to get our nails done," Cassandra reveals on the website. "Then on that Saturday, he woke me up and told me to get dressed as he was taking my daughter and I out to a nice breakfast."

After getting all dolled up to eat at Cracker Barrel, Cassandra was confused about Grant's intentions -- and she knew something was up when the trio headed to Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve.

  • Friend and photographer Mandi Gilliland, of Mandi Gilliland Photography, was waiting to capture their special moment.

"I was so nervous," Gilliland reveals to CafeMom. "I was literally hiding behind a tree right by the bridge and I was just trying to stay hidden so she wouldn't see me until after he went down on one knee," she adds. "Pulling off a surprise like that is incredible and I was thrilled to be a part of it."

  • But little did they know, Grant would make two proposals that day, asking Cassandra's 5-year-old daughter if he could be her dad.

  • "After proposing to me, Grant got back down to propose to my daughter," Cassandra reveals on the How He Asked website.

    She continues:

"He said, 'Adrianna can I be your daddy, to promise to love and protect you for the rest of your life?' As soon as he spoke those sweet words, I once again broke down in tears. Not the cute kind of tears either, the bawling type tears. My little heart could not take so much love!"

    Aww -- how sweet!!

  • To commemorate his special bond with Adrianna, Grant gave her a necklace her mom says symbolizes having 'a piece of his heart.'

"Our beautiful little family of two has now become three!" Cassandra writes on the How He Asked website. "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with this man! My daughter and I both got our fairy tale ending."
