Kate Gosselin Puts Her Foot Down Like a Normal Mom & the World Flips Out

kate plus 8 tlcReality star mama Kate Gosselin can't seem to steer clear of drama, especially in the wake of the release of Robert Hoffman's book Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World. One of the latest, most scathing stories from the book: In 2010, when Kate took her eight kiddos to Alaska for a TLC special with then-Governor Sarah Palin, her daughter Mady "absolutely did not want to go away for more filming, and especially not as far away as Alaska," reports Radar Online. She allegedly even called Jon to come pick her up, and when he did, he and Kate had a huge fight. Kate apparently "completely disregarded Jon’s concerns about Mady and blew it off by saying that Mady was just tired and she didn’t mean what she said."

After, Kate Gosselin "forced" Mady to go on the trip, and the girl's misery is "evidenced" by this photo, in which she appears to be visibly upset and crying. Oy ...

Though the fact that Kate and Jon locked horns over this is definitely upsetting, especially for the kids, the idea that we should think Kate is soooo terrible for putting her foot down with her daughter is nuts.

So what if she had made plans and expected her daughter to follow through with them? As long as a child isn't being hurt or put in harm's way, there's nothing wrong with a parent pulling what some might describe as a "power move" like this. Or more so making it clear who's calling the shots.

More from The StirKate Gosselin Takes Spying on Her Kids Way Too Far

There's a difference between emotionally abusing your child and simply parenting. Kids may not always want to get involved in a family activity, but they also don't always know what's best for them or their family. And sometimes, they have to learn the lesson that, sorry, all of us have to do things we don't "want" to do. That's just a part of life. And since when is throwing a tantrum something to be rewarded?

Though Hoffman may have a bevy of other stories that paint Kate in a not-so-great light as a mother, this surely isn't one of them. Maybe it's supposed to make her look like a control freak, but all it does is show that she doesn't let her kids walk all over her. And that's something to be applauded.

What would you do if your child said they didn't want to take a family trip at the last minute?

People will find any reason to hate on Kate. Jon will use anything as pawn to fight with her. If he was so concerned about his kids he would've solved the issues he had at home and not cheat on Kate. After all, hate Kate all you want she didn't break her vows. He did. She did what she had to do to provide for all those kids and her little boy of a husband. Parents need to parent. If I say my kid is going on a family trip, then my kid is going . Period.

She's a bitch. Her kids are so exhausted and she doesn't care about anyone but herself. Her daughter wasn't being a brat. She was worn out and just wanted to be a normal kid. I can't stand that woman! And what would I do if my child didn't want to go on a family trip ... well, this happend two years ago. We had plans during an event that my then 11 year old wanted to go to. I told him he was old enough to make that decision in this case and he stayed behind with his dad while my husband and I took his younger brother camping. If staying with dad is an option, I don't see the problem. Both of my children are respectful to me and they know that I also respect their feelings and opinions.

From the article:  ""when Kate took her eight kiddos to Alaska for a TLC special with then-Governor Sarah Palin, her daughter Mady "absolutely did not want to go away for more filming, and especially not as far away as Alaska,""

Could it be that Mady didn't want to go not because she didn't want to participate in a family vacation but because she didn't want to participate in a show about a family vacation?  Maybe she realized that this wasn't a vacay like you and I take and instead she was going to be forced to smile while we take your picture meeting with Ms Palin, stand over here, hold that fishing pole over there, pose for this, you're all getting up at 5am to film you watching sunrise.  Maybe the kid just didn't want to be an on demand performing seal for once.

I think there is a big difference in a child refusing to go on a family vacation and not wanting to go on a family vacation that will be televised on national television. She was old enough then to desire some privacy and Kate should have honored that.

I feel so bad for Mady. If she does have some kind of emotional issues they should be treated not mocked on TV and the internet or ignored. I don't think "not wanting to be on TV" makes her a bad kid. Forget the cameras and all that, if my child suddenly didn't want to go on a trip we had been planning is sit them down and talk to them and find out why and help them with whatever the issue is.

The "vacation" as you refer to it, was not the family going away and having a good time. It was about working on a television show-even if it was reality television. That kid, in fact all those kids, aren't stupid. They know their mom is pimping them out to make money. She has said that in many recent interviews herself-reality tv pays her bills because God forbid she shold actually try to go back and do something worthwhile with her time like go back to nursing.

Kate doesn't want to give up the lifestyle she and her children have become accustomed to-it's that simple. Her two older kids are letting the whole world know that they would rather  not live the lifestyle anymore. The youner kids will follow suit eventually nd learn how to embarras their mother on camera just like the older two do.

If I plan a family vacation, my kids will go, they have no other option.

They will suck it up and go. And either enjoy themselves, or sit and act like a brat, up to them.

I cannot even begin to understand what it must be like to keep 8 kids in line, under control, productive and doing what they all need to be doing, all of the time.  Kate may be perceived as a "bitch" but I don't know how I would keep all those kids in line if I just sweet talked them and allowed them to all have their say and their way.  Those kids would roll over Jon in a heartbeat, if there is no standard of behavior and discipline there is chaos and the kids will take every advantage they can.  It's a parents job to see that doesn't happen.

Kate is mom of the year, forcing her daughter to smile for the damn tv cameras and making her go on a televised vacation. Yup, awesome!!
