Yesterday afternoon, in 30 degree weather, I succumbed to a "can we go to the park" request from my boys. Now, I am not, I repeat, NOT the mommy who likes the cold. I've got about 10 minutes of let's-play-in-the-snow time stored in me per winter--once that's used up...Daaaaddddyyyy!
But physical fitness, particularly in the cold months, is very important for kids. Many schools have cut back on gym and athletics. In the winter, kids are typically indoors a lot more--and if you don't have a Wii system, chances are they aren't moving their bodies half as much as they should.
So what to do? YOGA! Ahhh, exercise and peace. This winter, I may break my own "no park in the
freezing cold" rule a little more, but I'm also enrolling my oldest in
an afterschool yoga class. (It's offered for cheap by a mom in his
school.) If classes don't work for you, in the Yoga Mamas group, I found a post by YogaGirl1211 recommending a yoga CD (with a poster of poses) for kids. Let me know if you try it.
Do your kids do yoga? How do you keep them moving in the winter?

We just keep doing the same stuff like, biking, rollerblading, and taking walks. We live in Texas where winter is only a few days a week. The rest of the week we are in the 70's. I think it's great that you are talking about kids and health! Way too many obese diabetic children in the states today!!!!!!!!!!
My kindergartener LOVES yoga. he loves demonstrating the Tree Pose, where you stand on one stork leg and extend arms straight up and out. They offer it a couple of times a week at his school as part of the curriculum. His teacher says it really helps the children to relax, focus and calm down. I think it's a great idea.
