Get the tissues ready because you're absolutely going to need them after watching this Air Force dad surprise his 5-year-old at his school with a homecoming that was very, very long overdue.
I know, I know -- fathers surprise kids at school after deployments all the time. But this reunion is a little different. You see, Tyler Harrill has been serving overseas in Guam for two years. Yes ... TWO years.
He had not seen his son, Byron, since the little boy was 2 years old.
Think about that for a second and let it sink in before you watch this clip.
OMG. These reunions are always tear-jerkers -- but I simply couldn't get over the fact that the last time this father saw his son was when he was just a toddler. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to be apart from your child for that long? And then to come home and see just how much he's changed -- to the point where he really isn't even the same kid anymore. (A lot happens between the ages of 2 and 5.)
And even though it's so wonderful that this father and son were finally brought back together, the reunion is definitely bittersweet. Tyler has to return to duty in a mere 15 days. (Ugh.) But spending two weeks together has to at least take away some of the pain of being apart for two years. These two sure have quite a bit of catching up to do!
How would you handle being away from your child for so long?
