$30.00 leggings? $75.00 shoes? Yeesh! Those are pricey items to be outgrowing in a few months.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that Jen

Wow... pricey! I would never spend that much per item on a growing child!

And that little dress you have pictured? Schools dont allow those anymore. Shoulders have to be covered. Yes, even in grade school now.

Same here with the dresses. It's hot here (NC), but try finding dresses, skirts or shorts that meet the length rules! And cute shirts that aren't tanks... I usually have to visit half a dozen stores to find a handful of clothes that they like and are allowed (you can't even judge how things would fit online, most of the time)

Older kids might do well with a $30 pair of leggings (I doubt I'd spend that much on myself, though), but mine are in elementary, and leggings almost never make it through 1 month without a Sharpie stain or a hole from falling on the sidewalk, even if they could make it half a year in one size!

Wow, the prices!! :-p My daughter is only in 2nd grade so a heafty portion of her clothing still comes from consignment and thrift stores. That's not to say we dont get her new things, but dang...$30 leggings gives me cold sweats! lol

Obviously you have no idea how most people live on the budget .Pretty useless article for 90% of moms out there.

These are back to school basics, not budget tips. The $30 leggings everyone is complaining about is just an example. LEGGINGS would be the back to school basic,  no matter where you get them. People just like to complain I think. I don't see a problem with spending that much on shoes, or even leggings if you're fortunate enough to afford it. Cost per wear; then you can always hand them down or take them to a consignment shop, even ebay. I have a dainty girl who's worst mess is some finger paints, but I can't speak for those of you with boys/tomboys ;)

Even if I wasn't a single mom on an already tight budget, I wouldn't buy anything on this list! Too expensive and kids outgrow clothing *too* fast!
