Dazzling Bedroom for 8-Year-Old Girl Is as Fun as It Is Daring

Big Kid 15

I can't remember exactly what my room looked like when I was a pre-teen, but I can guarantee it didn't quite compare to this bedroom belonging to 8-year-old Ruby. What a lucky kid!

I'm really digging the color palate of soft grays interspersed with pops of bright yellow. It's calm without being boring, and has enough color to keep things lively.

More from The Stir: A Little Girl's Room in Black and White: Love It or Hate It?

Love the rounded edges on this clever little nightstand, and the subtle pattern on the wallpaper is so cute.

There's that faux taxidermy I've been seeing everywhere. You either love it or you hate it, I suppose, but I think this deer mount with its yellow antlers looks right at home.

Here's a sweet little study nook complete with a Lucite chair. All the yellow accents and desk containers are super fun, too.

What a great hutch! Perfect for stashing knick-knacks, photos, and other treasures.

Decorating for an older child can be a bit of a challenge, especially if your kid is prone to their own (rather strong) opinions, am I right? I'm interested to know how you've handled this sort of thing with your own pre-teens and teens. Let's discuss!

When DS was born, two years ago, DD was 7 and they shared a room. We had soft grey walls, a grey rug and yellow curtains, linens, containers for toys. It was cute. DH doubted me when I told him I wanted grey and yellow but now it is very trendy. I think Rubys room is cute though it's a little sterile looking for my tastes.

Now dd is 9 and still let's me pick the color scheme for her room but likes to be involved in picking out the pieces, painting and assembling.

This is the ugliest bedroom I have seen for a child. Especially for a girl

I'd love it if the accent colour were purple, i'm not loving the yellow. Purple and gray would be beautiful, and that wallpaper is divine.

Everything but the pillows, yellow blanket and bookcase is freakin hideous!!! What is up with the deer antlers!?!? Id never put that in any of my kidsrooms!

I have five daughters and they all would not like this decor. It looks too grown up and sterile. Something about it is a little creepy. I love the name Ruby though!

I think I am over the yellow and grey look. So many people are doing that. The deer antlers has to be the ugliest thing there unless your from a family of hunters, I guess.

Haha, I didn't have a bed bigger than a twin until I was living on my own at 21. I don't think I'll be indulging my kids with anything like this. I like to keep things more practical.

I'm sorry, but that looks sterile and boring.  Poor kid.  Looks like a mom wanted to show off her decorating and didn't care about what a little girl would like.  And since when is 8 year old considered preteen?  I didn't think that was until 11 or 12 years old.

A grey bedroom with faux taxidermy for an 8 year old girl?? Not a fan. It's hard to imagine a girl who would choose this for herself.
