Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott's 'Family Showers' Are Kind of Creepy

Mom Moment 219

tori spelling dean mcdermottHuh. I'm all about family togetherness, but after hearing that Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott shower with their four children, I just can't help but be a bit, well -- weirded out.

No, this isn't a rumor. Tori willingly admitted on Twitter that she and the fam have recently started getting their group shower on. She said, "@Deanracer & I just had our 1st family shower w/all 4 babes. Went really well & saved on individual bath time! & only 1 babe pooped N shower."

Ok, so the poop thing is pretty funny because every mom has had a child poop in the tub (or shower?) -- but the part about the six of them bathing together? I'm having a tough time hopping on board with that one.

First of all, I can't seem to wrap my head around how they managed to fit six people in the shower. They must have one hell of an awesome master bath, but I guess that's beside the point.

Second, their older kids, Liam and Stella, are 6 and 4 years old. Aren't they both a little bit too old to be showering with their parents? Or if they're going to shower with their parents, shouldn't Liam shower with Dean and Stella shower with Tori -- separately? I mean, I guess I'm ok with them taking the babies in the shower, because they're babies and they don't know the difference between being naked and clothed, and you gotta hose 'em off one way or the other. But the older kids? I don't think so.

My son is my whole world, but at 7 years old, there's no way I'm about to hop in the shower with him. Actually, now that I think about it, I've never showered with him. My husband has, especially when he first made the switch from taking baths to taking showers. But he's been showering on his own for well over a year now, and I can't imagine either one of us getting in there with him -- especially not me.

Back to Tori and Dean's kids -- um, hello? They're both old enough to know that boys and girls have different parts, and it seems strange enough for them to be bathing together as brother and sister, let alone with grown adults of the opposite sex. Something about it just seems so inappropriate and odd, but then again, who am I to judge? Those are Tori and Dean's kids, and if showering as a family works for them, I guess I really shouldn't question it.

(But I still find the whole idea really creepy and weird.)

Do you shower with your kids?

Althought it isn't your parenting style, I wouldn't call it creepy or weird. It is very common in other countries, such as England, to have family showers. The human body isn't creepy and weird and by calling their family shower this, it insinuates something sexual is taking place.

No I wouldn't, and yes I find it creepy. No, the human body isn't weird. However, and adult body ahring time with a child body...IS weird. There are many ways to teach healthy views of the human body, without having to parade yourself nude around your children.

I used to put my kids in the shower with me all the time...saved a LOT of time for a single parent, not to mention money on hot water.  But I definitely stopped once they started "looking funny" at me.  LOL.  As long as it is innocent, it is just that - innocent.  They must have a HUGE shower :)

I don't think children should shower with their parents of the opposit sex after about 2.5-3 or with parents period after 4 or 5. I just feel like it could confuse them when daddy has a penis and they don't before they are ready to learn the graphic details between boys and girls. I don't think it's sexual, it's just not something I would be comfortable with.

Im not comfortable with my girls showering with me @ all anymore they are 6 and 10 to old for me when they were 3 maybe 4 once in awhile ok but my girls are banned from taking a shower with mommy.Thats my time and I let them have there privacy.Yeah just a little weird for me this story.

Don't see the problem all. So a kid notices that a different genders have different parts. Its totally fine. My daughter asked why I have hair. (She's 4) I told her cause I'm a woman. When she's a woman shell get hair too. She also knows men have different parts... Had to tell her as she kept jumping on my husbands balls. LOL. She isn't scarred from it.

Ummm we do this sometimes my hubby where's shorts and I wear a bathing suite. The kids are 3 and 4 boy and girl and it's fun. No inopropriate behavior or activities just a shower and then we are done. Our water bill is like a lot cheaper now. And so a penny saved is a penny more I can spend on the kids. We shower separately as well but occasionally The kids want to jump in with dad or me so no big deal. Human body is natural and kids that are thought to be comfertable with nudity rarely have body issues later in life.

My view, to each their own! My kids stopped showering with us when they were, about, 2! When the kids started pointing at daddy's business I was like ok were done, regardless of them knowing or not! It just seemed right, but I'm not quick to judge! And true, Americans, are pretty reserved when it comes to our bodies! Europe is more free and open! Question though, how do we not know bathing suits were involved? Silly question I know, but you never know!!!! :)

why is so wrong for kids to know they have different parts?why does it have to be taboo?
