'Google Doodle' Contest for Kids: Insider Tips on How Your Child Can Win ($30K for College!)
It's the one piece of artwork seen by millions of people every single day. Any guesses? If you guessed the Google Doodle, give yourself a pat on the back. Then call the kids into the room.
Your kid's art can go from the refrigerator to the front page of the most trafficked search engine in the world. Just. Like. That. It's called Google 4 Doodle, and The Stir got the skinny on how to get your little artist the coveted spot on Google's front page.
The company has been soliciting kids' artwork for six years now, giving a young artist the kind of exposure Picasso would have killed for in his day, along with a $30,000 college scholarship, and a $50,000 technology grant for their school. Some 114,7000 kids competed last year, so The Stir asked Lead Google Doodler Ryan Germick what gets a kid a spot at the top of the competition.
Why do YOU think the Google Doodles are so cool?
Well, thank you for saying so! I imagine a lot of the enjoyment people find in Doodles comes from the love and hard work we put into making them.
What do you look for in a winning design?
A winning design should be full of fun and originality. A creative integration with the letters is always good as well.
Where do you draw inspiration for your designs -- any avenues kids can look to?
Inspiration is everywhere! Think of all the stories, jokes, music, movies, games, etc. that have made you feel good, made you laugh, or taught you something new. Try to give that same gift to the people experiencing your artwork.
What's the best medium -- pencil, crayon ... ?
Whatever medium you find the most fun –- the more you enjoy creating your Doodle, the more likely others will enjoy it too.
Think your kid can do this? Get one in to Google by March 22, and they could have a chunk of college paid for! And check out these past winners ... maybe they'll give your kids some inspiration.
