8-Year-Old Turns His Birthday Party Into a Toy Drive & Collects 500 Gifts for Needy Kids (VIDEO)
As the mom of a 6-year-old, I'm fully aware of what a big deal birthdays are for kids. My little guy gets so excited about his party each year, mainly because he loves being the center of attention, and like every kid, he loves tearing into all of his birthday presents.
And that's why I couldn't help but be moved, touched, and inspired after hearing about an 8-year-old boy who turned his birthday party into a Toys for Tots drive -- and collected over 500 gifts for kids in need.
Chase Branscum decided that he'd rather use his birthday to help spread joy to other children in lieu of receiving gifts, and that's why his party was held at a local gymnasium and had over 100 guests in attendance. (And yes, this was his idea -- his parents didn't put him up to it or anything like that.)
His reason for wanting to forgo presents for himself this year was simple and will truly touch your heart.
Chase said, "I already have toys and other kids don’t. They don’t have toys and when they don't have anything for Christmas they can’t play and they can’t have fun."
Take a look at this video clip to hear more about Chase's selfless birthday wish.
OMG. How much do you love this kid? What a sweet, warm-natured, kind-hearted little boy!
His mother is definitely raising an amazing little human being, and she must be absolutely bursting at the seams with pride right now.
I know I would be if this were my son, because as much as I hate to admit it, I'm not sure he'd think to put other kids first on his birthday. I mean, he's a wonderful little boy and all, but he is a kid -- and most kids want their birthday to be all about them.
I won't lie -- he could probably use a good dose of humility from time to time, and that's why I plan on sitting him down tonight and having him watch this video to hear about what Chase did for those kids. It's so important to teach our children that giving is even better than receiving, and I'm really hoping hearing Chase's story will remind him of just how lucky he is and inspire him to give to those who are less fortunate.
Has your child ever taken the initiative and put others' needs about his own?
