5 Creative & Fun Ways to Surprise Kids When Wrapping Their Gifts

gift wrapping surpriseHave your kids been extra good this year? If Junior and Juniorette are solidly on the "nice list" come gift-giving time, you may want to surprise them with some fun and creative additions to their presents. Including a few small, but unexpected, and oh yeah, cheap little attachments to the outside of one or two of their main presents is sure to bring an extra big smile to their faces. Who doesn't love two gifts in one? It's the ultimate twofer that even the Grinch would love.

Here are 5 ideas to surprise kids when wrapping their gifts.

Instead of using ribbon to tie their present, use a jump rope! It's a cute idea that's functional, too. Bonus points for using a jump rope to tie up a gift of new outdoor wear or sneakers.

Attach a cool hair accessory to the outside of the box. All major drug stores and big box stores sell adorable ponytail holders and the ilk that would look great affixed as a center bow on a wrapped gift.

Wrap their gift in white tissue paper and use a cool stamp to decorate the package, then place the (cleaned) stamp and ink pad on the outside of the box and tie it down with ribbon. Not so newsy-flash -- kids love stamps.

Personalized key chains can be found at almost any tourist trap or party favor store -- slip a key chain with your son's or daughter's name on it onto the ribbon of their present. Bonus points for you if you've named your kid Zebulon and were able to locate an eponymous key chain.

Candy, candy, and did I mention candy? Seriously -- my mom once put a Milky Way on the outside of one of my presents (I think it was a winter coat she wrapped, but that's neither here nor there), and it made my Christmas. Tape your kid's favorite candy to their present and be a hero, why dontcha.

Happy wrapping!
