25 Classic Toys Our Kids Will Love as Much as We Did This Holiday

Hot List 51

marblesThe older my kid gets, the more time I find myself spending trying to convince her things from my childhood were so much cooler than anything she has on her list for Santa. Now before you roll your eyes at the desperate old lady, let me tell you, it's been working! I pull out something I loved as a kid, and what do ya know, she tends to fall in love too.

It's got me thinking. What if this Christmas we all mixed it up a little? Sure, get them some things from the hot holiday toy list. But what if we all went back to the basics and purchased some of the old standbys as holiday gifts? We loved them so much, why wouldn't our kids love them too?

Bonus here is a lot of these old favorites are pretty easy on the wallet! Need some ideas? Here's a whole list that is guaranteed to work:

Those are all great toys.  I had fun playing with many of them.  Kids need to go back to more basic toys.

Lots of chocking and strangling hazards, as a mom of 4 kids 5 and under, not going to happen in my house.

PonyC... PonyChaser

Rubick's Cube. I actually LOVED Rubick's "Snake" that came out after the cube, but I don't think they make that any more.

Legos. Lincoln Logs. Tinker Toys.(although I will admit that Lego is to the toy world what Glitter is to the craft world.)

The best part about a lot of these toys? They can easily be shared, and they are not age-specific. My son started playing with Duplo (the big, toddler-friendly Lego) blocks with me when he was about 2. That stuff was AWESOME for his fine motor skills, with which he had a little bit of difficulty. And now, we have Lego marathons (he's 9), where the two of us will sit and build stuff for a couple of hours. AWESOME for the imagination, bonding, etc.

I liked board games and so does my dd. That's a great list, the types of things I buy my dd for her birthday.
