How to Create a Homework Station That Works for Your Kid (PHOTOS)
If there's one thing I'm dreading about school being back in session again, it's homework. I do not relish the drama of trying to coax and coerce my son to sit and down and just get it done already!
I've vowed up and down that we will NOT have battles like we did last year, but I know we will if I don't make some changes. One of those changes is establishing a designated homework space. This means no just plopping down wherever he feels like, but creating a space for the sole purpose of homework that will suddenly make homework more enticing than video games or playing outside with his friends. Okay, I'm not delusional, but I'm hoping it will at least make things a little better. Here are some tips for setting up a homework station for your kid.

Minimize Distractions
Try to establish it in a location that's as free from distractions as possible. Make sure it's out of the line of sight of televisions that might be on and windows outside of which friends may be playing.

Right now DS is a toddler and we are working on an art space...that space will eventually become his homework space too when school starts. :)
I think the space is very important...its also important for you to say within sight distance so that you kid knows that there is no slacking off . : )

I bought desks with shelves and drawers for my sons. And I asked to see their homework when they were done.

Great tips. Looks like I'm going to have to work on a better work space for my son. He'll be proud to have his own space and have it be cool too.

Space in our house is very very very limited. We dont have room to make a homework area. Instead we use the kitchen table. We have a cabinet full of supplies and stuff that they might need though.

They do it in the kitchen or living room.. make sure their brain and tummy are full... feed them a light snack first.. turn things like tv, internet (unless used for learning), cell phone and other distractions off...

My dd has 2 desks - 1 in her room and 1 on the main floor of the house. Both are stocked with everything she needs. If her work is new and complicated I prefer her to be on the main floor so I can help and answer questions.
