Some punishments clearly cross the line. This is one of them.
A woman allegedly beat her 7-year-old daughter -- leaving bruises and lacerations -- for kissing a kindergarten classmate. A New Jersey judge ruled that she was not within her parental rights for a punishment that went well beyond a "customary spanking."
In court documents, the mother defended the beating saying it was within her constitutional rights to use that type of punishment. And believe it or not, an earlier court decision agreed with her. The first judge to hear the case didn't think the whupping was actually excessive. Huh? That is a serious head scratcher. But it's easy to see why that decision was reversed.
Prosecutors said photos of the girl showed bruises on her arms, back, buttocks and thoughts. She also had cuts to her buttocks and right though likely caused by the belt buckle. If this mom reacts like this over a little kiss, I shudder to think of what would happen if the little girl were to cuss or hit. There must be some line when it comes to corporal punishment.
I know, I know. Just who is going to set the standard outlining when it's okay to hit. Well, until the International Association of Spanking Parents comes out with an official rule book, parents will just have to use a bit of common sense. Kiss - a scolding, if even that. Stealing - a spanking, if that's your preference. In any circumstance, a spanking that results is bruising and lacerations is over-the-top. Giving birth to children doesn't give you the right to torture them.
Do you think this mom was within her rights?

This mother who hit her 7 year old repeatedly with the belt that it caused the bruises and lacerations, that's uncalled for. I don't think taking the child away is really fully necessary, but counseling is. The mother clearly needs some anger management classes and needs to be taught how to deal with things. As long as this is the first incident and it's an otherwise loving home, then she should be given a second chance to learn from this mistake and get some help for her anger issues.
LOVE that line - Giving birth to children doesn't give you the right to torture them.
Unfortunately SO many people believe that they have the right to do anything they want to their children because they are 'theirs'. The awful thing is that we all know this won't be the last time that this little girl gets abused by her mother. Makes me sick :(
Well, let's beat her the same way and see what she thinks :)
Hope the little girl is ok!
i agree..a serious talk wouldve been better. This woman may have been raised that way...i know tons of strict families who take a womans purity and honor so serious they would go this far..sad.
How about spell checking your article before you publish!? It's ridiculous!
This article is such shit i can barely read it, first off it was alleged abuse so that means it wasnt proven. Second if this story is true then where is the the jail time and child being taken from the home not happening. I know how the system works if any one finds brusies and cuts like this to a child they are immediatly taken from the home. As an abused child that is how the system works and once mom finshes her jail time and takes her assigned classes the child will be placed back with her mom. Dont believe me do some actual research. Some times i think that the stir makes stories up just to get viewers.
