Grand Junction, Colorado and surrounding towns.
We just drove up to the Colorado National Monument. It's breathtaking, and as long as you watch them closely when you stop & get out (it's a long way down!), the kids love it! My 3yo fell asleep on the way and woke up while we were driving the winding . He looked out the window and exclaimed, "we're in the mountains! We're in the distance!" We live near the monument and could always see it "in the distance" so he thought that's what it was called! There are short trails that kids can do, as well as long, more challenging trails, and a visitor's center with educational exhibits and short videos. My 5-year-old was explaining the trip to my husband, who wasn't able to come with us. He said it was "the beautifulest mountains ever."
To top it off, if you exit the west side, you'll drive right past the dinosaur museum, a great little museum with animatronic dinos, one that "spits" water at you, hands-on exhibits, an earthquake simulator, and more!
If you stay overnight, be sure to check out downtown Grand Junction. Tons of great shops, a toy store and a candy store, splash pad, and rocks to climb. Thursday nights are farmer's market. Main street is closed off to traffic and there are vendors and live music. Lots of great local restaurants and a wonderful atmosphere. Parks all over the place too!
Can you tell I love my city? ;)
Branson is a hell hole!
I'd add Gettysburg but I'm a Civil War geek :)
thanks

smokey mountains in gatlinburg, yellowstone national park, yoesamite national park.
I've been to San Antonio, Vegas, Grand Canyon and my own back yard. LOL San Antonio was probably my fave. I just felt happy there. Loved the mariachi bands, the shops and river walk. Vegas is just cool...and the Grand Canyon is breath taking. My own back yard is awesome because it's my own personal space. :)
