I think we can all relate to wanting to do what the hockey mom in the following video does. It's the fact that she actually did it that's so unbelievable.
During a youth hockey game in Boston, a fight breaks out, as fights often do in hockey. However, when the refs don't do enough to save her precious son from the blows, she marches out onto the ice, in front of the entire crowd, and lets them have it. With her finger wagging, she unleashes a few expletives as the refs tell her to get off of the ice. Watch after the jump.
My favorite part is that she brought her purse with her!
The woman hasn't been identified as of yet, and I'm not sure how old her son is, but can you even imagine how mortified he was/is/always will be? I cringe for him.

In the lady's defense, however, that ref on the right was doing nothing to stop the fight. He was just standing there, watching. If someone was pummeling my kid like that, I would find it hard to hold myself back too. I would ... or at least I hope I would. That mama bear instinct is pretty strong though, even if puts you on some pretty thin ice sometimes.
What do you think about this hockey mom -- bad move or bad ass?

I Don't understand why fighting is justified or acceptable in hockey.
Those kids were at least teenagers... She should have stayed off the ice. Its Hockey. If you dont want your precious little angle to get bruised, keep them home. Im betting she just ruined her sons social life for a while... Poor kid.
Fighting is just a part of hockey--people know this. Most parents learn that by a certain age, refs usually don't interfere until people hit the ice. It's for their safety as well as it's sort of an unwritten rule in hockey. I don't know how old the boys are in this video, but I'm assuming the ref knew that the fight would either fizzle or they would hit the ice and he could interfere. If boys and girls want to play hockey, they (and their parents) have to get used to fighting. I think its up to every parent to decide whether they're going to deal with the fighting or not.
Oh that poor boy! But, for whatever reason, there is fighting in hockey (don't understand it either). There has always been fighting in hockey and always will be. Sign him up for piano lessons....so he can stay in side and hide himself from the ridicule he's going to certainly receive from his teammates and others.
I grew up around hockey, whether it was at an actual organized game, or just out on a pond, or in someones backyard rink made with a hose.I know some people will NOT like me saying this, BUT, Hockey is a rough sport. It's kinda like the Friday night fights.
Now these may have been kids, but they don't look like little kids to me, they look like high schoolers, and my high school sons would have DIED of embarassment had I interupted a hockey fight! It would have been like taking away a "badge of manhood" for them.
No matter then reasons for it (and I am a hockey fan, GO CAPS!!!), I think it is terribly sad that grown men resort to acting like a bunch of little boys and fight so much on the ice, I think it sets a terrible example for children watching them and makes it seem OK to puch another person in the face if you dont like the way the game is going, its the one thing I really dislike about hockey
guess her son won't be inviting her to any more games :)
