Parents have always been concerned about their kids getting to school safely, but it looks like the worry shouldn't end at the front doors.
An 8-year-old student from the Bronx is accused of slashing a 9-year-old classmate in the neck with a double-edge razor.
The fight went down during recess where the kids were arguing in the play yard. The younger of the two whipped out the weapon and cut the other one, who was rushed to the hospital, stitched up, and released.
How scary is that?! Rough high schools are one thing but this is ridiculous. It's like Lean on Me for the Elmo-adoring set. But as disturbing as it is to picture this half-pint playing Freddy Krueger, I find it even more shocking that school parents are BLAMING THE TEACHERS for the violence.
Many say classes are overrun with "problem children" because the administration is not strict enough when it comes to discipline. (I should note that this school has a history of behavioral issues. The students are so bad, the principal canceled the fifth grade graduation ceremony.)
Now, I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt the teachers are arming them with shanks and encouraging a round of The Hunger Games near the swing set. It's not reading, writing, and assault with a deadly weapon.
The problems these students have began long before they landed in those classrooms. Violence is a learned behavior and most kids learn it in their homes or from those closest to them. That means it's the parents' job to teach them right and wrong, to respect the lives of others, and how to resolve differences without violence. Of course teachers should reinforce those life lessons, but is it really fair to make it their job to curb anti-social or homicidal tendencies?
Now, I do think kids can pick up bad habits at school, but a willingness to literally cut another student's throat is beyond that. It’s ultimately the parents responsibility to shape them into good, decent people.
What do you think? Are the teachers to blame for these out-of-control students?

I have no idea how you can think being bullied gives one the right to defend one's self with a RAZOR. I've been bullied before, but the furthest defense I've gone was kicking a few of the bullies in the leg. My situation was verbal more than physical so you'd probably argue that it wouldn't be the same if I was being abused physically. Either way though, speaking to someone would have been a far better thing to do.
absolutely not the teachers are not to blame. most of the teachers who get stuck teaching at shit schools like that are just out of school and can't find a decent job. how is it their fault these kids are being raised by pure trash? you don't want your kids surrounded by violence, don't raise them in the f*cking ghetto. it's that simple. get your ass off of welfare and start doing better for yourself and your children. these people REALLY need to stop blaming everyone else for their problems and start accepting some responsibility for the way their lives turned out. nobody forced them to end up like that.
People are so stupid. They think that if kids are having any trouble whatsoever they should just blame the teachers. These kids have parents. THEY are in charge of the kids' moral upbringing and making sure their children are not violent, are well-behaved and disciplined. You can't blame teachers for the kids being this way. Their job is to provide knowledge and encourage children to learn and get interested and curious in the world around them. It is not to raise their kids. That's the parents' job.
God---its the Bronx for crying out loud. And this kid has issues way before school started. I am sure his parents feel he is totally in the right. Of course they do. Trailer trash begets more trailer trash. Then they turn them loose on unsuspecting citizens. God forbid the students get any type of training at home. These idiot parents think they have done their job by spitting their brats out. THIS is why I hae a CC license. Someone comes at me....kid or no with determination to do me or someone I love harm.....I will blow them into a brand new day. Period.
Parents are the ones responsible when kids reach this point. Do NOT expect someone else to raise your kid & teach them right from wrong - that's YOUR job! Do NOT expect someone else to teach tehm that violence is wrong, again YOUR job!! Especially don't expect someone else to teach your child proper behaviour when you remove their to punish them too. Shameful.
