HS is partly correct. Alligators have a rounded snout and crocs have a more narrow/pointed snout. HOWEVER, there certainly *are* crocodiles in the US. I'm a FL native and have seen my share.
Alligators usually are found in freshwater and crocodiles are usually found in saltwater. Crocodiles are usually more aggressive than alligators. Alligators and crocodiles are both found in N. America but alligators are much more prevalant which is why several Southern states have an annual hunting season on them.
