Need a reason to take the kids to the see The Hunger Games? Well, other than the fact that they've read all the books and been begging you to see it since the countdown began? Mega roles like Katniss' little sister Primrose Everdeen were filled by child stars, and when The Stir caught up with them on the black carpet at the premiere, they couldn't stop talking about the books!
It turns out starring in one of the biggest movies of the year isn't just cool for the likes of Willow Shields (yes, she's just 11, and yes, she's the one and only Prim!) because it's a big-time film. The child stars and their moms dished with The Stir's Sheri Reed CafeMomStudios on their ulterior motives for auditioning for this film in particular and whether they're Team Peeta or Team Gale:
Wahoo! Let's hear it for kids who love to read! Not to mention a cheer for books that are worth putting in our kids' hands! Suzanne Collins' three novels are some of the best I've read in a long time, and I've set them aside for my kid to read -- just like these mom fans. I can understand why they did everything they could to make sure their kiddos got to audiction for this film, and worked schedules to make sure they could star.
In case you didn't catch all those, some of those moms are pretty big-time. That was Oscar Award winner Marcia Gay Harden hanging with her daughter Eulala on the black carpet, gushing about how Katniss is a good role model for girls. As Shields says, Team Katniss all the way!
How cool is it that celebrity moms and kids are passing these books back and forth just like the rest of us, and getting together to see the film as a family too? Who are you going to see The Hunger Games with?
