Kids need to pass the state tests and all, but wouldn't it be nice if teachers also prepared our kids for life? Because when was the last time you actually needed to use an algebra equation in your day-to-day. Serious academics definitely have its place, but a survey of CafeMoms found it would be great to add these subjects to their child's curriculum as well ... see if you agree with these moms from our community.

I think that some of them are important, some of them are already taught in our schools, and some of them should not be.
I would like to be the one to teach my child about the birds and the bees.
I think all of these are great - ESPECIALLY Finance. I think that may be one of the most important.
I agree with all of these things. Yes, certain things should be taught by the parents, sure, but what about the kids with crappy parents? Should they just do without knowing a damn thing about personal finances? I think it's pretty messed up to deny it to all just because you're planning on teaching it at home. Some kids aren't as lucky as yours.
I went to a "in the middle of nowhere, everyone's family" country school... 'cept I was one of the few who hailed from elsewhere. Btw I'm 21 so that wasn't that long ago. My sex ed consisted of "puberty" in the 5th grade and STD's in the 8th. So, honestly, unless there's gonna be a law passed saying that all parents are required to talk to their kids about sex at a certain age to whatever extent.. it does seem to be a good idea to at least cover the basics in schools. It seemed a little off that we had so little sexual education in the lower grades, but in my high school they had a parenting class. It was kind of like "Don't have sex! buuuuuut if ya do... here's some tips on how to raise the kid you'll eventually produce". Everything else seems legit to. Its always important to be an involved parent, however, and continue the learning process at home.
