Last week, we had a hell of a morning. The kids didn't want to wake up, they didn't want to eat their breakfast and they didn't want to brush their teeth. After arguing with them for an hour, I finally raised my voice. "When you're an adult, you can do what you want. Now you have to listen to me!!" My youngest widened his eyes and told me he couldn't wait to be an adult. I explained that being a kid is much more fun, and to enjoy it, but I couldn't help but agree. While I miss certain things about being young, there are things I love more about being a grown up. Things like these ...
1. If you want to eat cookies for breakfast, you can.
2. Nobody forces you to wear a jacket, hat and gloves.
3. You can stay up as late at you want to.
4. You can say "because I said so" and get away with it.
5. Nobody forces you to eat your veggies.
6. You get to pick your own friends.
7. Nobody makes you clean your room.
8. You can buy liquor for yourself.
9. You know what sex is and can have it.
10. You don't ever have to take another standardized test.
What's your favorite thing about being a grown up?

Poor kids, they just get drug around, poked, proded and evaluated by these doctors.
Sure, its for their own good, but that doesn't mean they have the right to skip it if they just aren't feeling like it today.
I've always hated your number 4 reason. "Becuase" is not an answer or a reason. I finally told my parents to make up some random reason for what they wanted me to do or not to do, anything is better than "Because". That word when its given as a reason still drives me nuts.
My son has been throwing epic fits lately over the silliest things and it made me really happy that I don't break down and cry if my granola bar bends and breaks in half :]
Gotta say, number 10 is probably my favorite off the list. The rest is great too but those tests were the worst for me. My addition's gotta be that when I'm sad, no one tries to make me talk and I'm free to sit on my couch in sweats with a thing of Ben and Jerry's and good old mindless tv, Jerry Springer is always a fan of mine.
I get to watch whatever I want on TV for as long as I want.
While there are many perks to being an adult, being a child is wonderful adventure, for most children at least. Yeah they have a bedtime, homework, different best friends every week, and not to mention they haven't grown into their face, but most children don't have to worry about college, bills, car payments, awful coworkers, and all of the other stressors of adult life. They get to use their imagination and be whoever they want and go wherever they want. They can build forts, run around barefoot, not worry what others think or if their relationships will last. It's usually an amazing experience, and we only get about fifteen years of it and then it's gone.
