Best Learning Toys to Boost Your Kid's Brain Power

colored pencilsAs if the holidays weren't stressful enough, have you sat down and actually read your kid's holiday wish list yet? It seems like every single thing they see, they automatically want, and that doesn't necessarily mean you want it in your house! One or two silly toys are one thing, but how do you inject a little, well, education into the fun of the holidays without feeling like the grinchy mom?

It is possible, Moms and Dads, I swear. You just have to pick the right toys -- so they're still getting fun gifts while they're getting that brain boost. How about trying one of these on for size?

Kids' Computer -- What's better than a gaming system? One loaded with games that run them through their ABC's and 123's.

Musical Toys -- I know, I know, you hear the words "noisy toy" and something inside you dies. But music is known to stimulate the brain and help kids learn. And what's more fun than beating a drum to drive Mom nuts?

Sports Equipment -- Athletics get a lot of heat for taking away from academics, but there's a reason so many schools have made physical education mandatory. Exercise clears the brain! Not to mention, when two kids get together to kick a ball around, they're learning about teamwork, healthy competition, the works.

Art Supplies -- Be it a craft kit or just a giant roll of paper with some colored pencils and crayons, letting your kids express themselves is a big key to opening up the door to imagination.

Science Kits -- What's up their alley? Animals, dinosaurs, or maybe it's all about rocks? Embrace their obsession with projects that let them dive into all the details.

Puzzles -- Any time your kids have to solve a problem with their toy, they're developing their logic skills. Pretty soon that "Mommy how do I?" question will be replaced with "Look what I can do now Mom!"

Bike -- Where better to learn than out on an adventure?
