The Family Who Costumes Together Stays Together!

I am Halloween obsessed. This comes as no surprise to those who know me and my obsessions with terrifying films, candy binges, and costumes. It's by far my favorite holiday, and as far as I am concerned, it's also a family affair.

Since my daughter was born in early 2007, I have planned and executed a family costume every Halloween, and this year is no different. The problem, of course, is that now my daughter is almost 5 and she is starting to choose for herself. My idea -- the Scooby Doo characters -- was nixed in favor of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Alas, the time has come for my kid to choose herself. But she still gets that we are all in it together. She thinks in fours, so that's a plus! We have had a good run, though. Here are some of our best:

The above photo is a preview of this year. This is obviously just the kids. The adults will debut their costumes on October 31. Here is 2008:

Obviously, this is The Wizard of Oz. We may do a redo on this costume someday because I am obsessed with the movie and I know we can do even better! Our 2009 costume was this:

Clearly, this was Alice in Wonderland. I created my baby's costume with an adult-sized sweatshirt that I cut up to make the hat and body, white tights, a feather boa for the fluffy fur, and pink felt for the ears. I usually keep the adult costumes more low key since this is more about the kids and their fun. This is 2010:

This was all store-bought, but it was so much fun. We still have these costumes and wear them from time to time. This year's costume is previewed in the above left. Once we are all together, it will make more sense. I can't wait!

Happy Halloween!
