I am not usually one to take Suri Cruise to task. I love her style and would totally be dressing my daughter just like her if I had the Cruise bank account. But even I have to draw the line somewhere, and it seems, for me, that line is made of red lipstick.
Suri has 130 pairs of shoes, many of which are heels. She has clothing even I would kill for and she drinks coffee, too. But none of those things bothered me. But red lipstick is just ridiculous and that is exactly what she was spotted wearing in Manhattan last week.
It's sad, really. Childhood is a blip on the course of life, a mere 10 years in a lifetime. So why would anyone want to rush through that?
Sure, my daughter loves to try on mommy's makeup and put on lip gloss and wear my heels. But she also knows those activities are for fun. She would never think she could wear lipstick just out and about. And I would never let her, especially red lipstick, which is dramatic and sexy on adults. On children, it just looks weird.
There is a time and place for everything. It's hard to imagine why her parents feel the need to let her be so grown up so fast. Maybe they think it's cute and harmless and maybe it is. But as a parent, it puts me off.
My daughter has a makeup puff she got as part of a PR gift bag at an event I attended for work. With it, she got some glitter powder. She loves to wear it and tell everyone how much "prettier" she is with makeup (I cringe).
The fact is, little girls are beautiful. There is one time in their lives (and it's so brief) where they won't wear makeup and their skin will be perfect and luminous. Why let them, even for a second, believe otherwise?
If Suri Cruise is a child style icon, she has failed on this one. Big time.
Do you think she is too young for red lipstick?

My mom let my sister and I wear makeup on occassion . No foundation, only colorful stuff, and only for play . It didn't damage either of us . It was fun to play in and let us be creative . We had a great childhood .To be honest, we both don't really even wear makeup now ...
The shoes are, in my opinion, in excess, but I guess if you can afford it ...
I just dont understand how we praise Angelina for letting Shilo dress how she wants then chastise Katie. Shouldn't it go both ways? I loved putting lipstick on as a kid and my girls do too. WHATS THE BIG DEAL?? its not like shes in full makeup. She wants to look like mommy? Who cares?!
both my daughter love putting on their red lip gloss which looks like red lip stick on them they love and i am not gonna stop them
so i say go ahead they are only kids once so who cares if she wears lipstick
Man, people are way too preoccupied with what other people allow their kids to do. I don't see this as either a health risk or as something that will warp the child into some mental case or a nuissance to society. No, at worst, this is a fashion faux pas. But I think she looks darling. BTW, I had very red lips as a child and people accused my parents of putting lipstick on me. I don't think that's the case here... it looks like Suri is wearing a lip stain, which won't run all over the place as it would be bound to do on any kid.
Well, at the rate that kid is aging, I expect her to look 45 by the time she is 14. I suppose she has to start early is she is going to outdo the current crop of Hollywood Hot Messes.
Did you never play dress up? Goodness. I think she is going to be far more impacted in her life by the constant criticism since the moment of birth then she ever would from a bit of lipstick.
I don't see the big deal. She is a kid. Let her be a kid. Maybe she wants to look like her mommy. I wanted to be like my mom when I was six. I used to wear her bra over my shirt because I thought it made me more like my mom. Now if she were dressed like a hooker like toddlers and tiaras little girls I would see the problem. But letting a little girl wear lipstick one time in public isn't such a big deal in my opinion.
Uh, how many of us had play make-up cases at 5? The kind with the shocking shades of eye shadow and minature lipsstick? At least Suri's make-up is probably better quality than what comes in those.
Not at all, I loved lipstick at that age when I was dressing up.
