There are two camps of mothers: Those who cry on the first day of school, and those who rejoice with the “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” commercial from Staples playing gleefully in their heads. Not surprisingly, my kids start this week and I've already started dancing. Turns out, I'm not alone in my glee about solo trips to Target and phone calls in peace.
Here's what some of my fellow moms are celebrating about the start of the school year ...
1. "Getting to drink a *hot* coffee. Not warm, hot." Carolyn, Hooked and Happy
2. "Having the pool to myself and able to work on my all over tan!" Beth
3. "Being able to do what I want, when I want, and where I want for 7 hours!" Kristin
4. "I get the PS3, Wii & Xbox all to myself." Jasmine, Fashion Grail
5. "I stuff my face with food I ban in their presence while they're at school." Erin, I'm Gonna Kill Him
6. "Having sex in the middle of the day!!!!" Adrianna
7. "I don't have to wipe the kids' asses when they poop or listen to the WHINING!!" Rachel, Mommy Needs a Vacation
8. "The decrease in the decibel level in the house." Kim
9. "That I can clean out the toys and make things disappear without anyone noticing!" Rebecca
10. "The kitchen is no longer an all you can eat snack bar and the basement is no longer a crash pad for Disney girl drama." Rebecca, Random Thoughts by Rebecca
11. "Finally getting a bikini wax without an audience!" Jessica, A Parent in Silver Spring
12. "That second cup of coffee ... in PEACE!" Chrissy, Life As a CEO
13. "No more beach sand tracked across the wood floors, crunched into the car rugs, or spilling from the lint trap in the dryer!" Andrea, Gold Coast Mama
14. "I can eat whatever I damn well please for breakfast and/or lunch. Over a wrapper. In front of the computer while it's playing profanity-laced or boring-science-filled YouTube videos." Kimberly, Arizona Writer
15. "I will no longer be forced to eat their leftover lunches. Okay I'm kind of gonna miss that ... but my ass won't." Kathy, Mama's Losin' It

I agree with a previous comment...this kinda makes me sad...
Being able to open a tampon wrapper with no one thinking I am eating candy in the bathroom :)
School stresses me out since I have two kids with life threatening food allergies. But I am happy that two of them are gone for the day to enjoy life with other kids. I do wish the meltdowns would happen there and not here though. But I really am enjoying time with my youngest daughter once I get over the anxiety LOL
oh carolkey--get over yourself. I homeschooled for the first 4 years of my sons education, and i know both sides of the coin here..obviously this is meant to be taken with a bit of humor-ever heard of it? I teasingly tell my kids how excited i am to get them back in school. Its so much different if your kids have never been in school. They dont get all freaky during the summer like B&M school kids do. My kids now are traditionally schooled, and the routine they get from that is, i believe very good for them. They have a purpose, learn to be responsible for themselves and enjoy the activities they get to do each day. I have nothing against homeschooling, but youre trying to make yourself sound like youre a better parent because you dont send them off every day. Dont make homeschoolers sound like jerks. We LOVVVE our kids, we just need a bit of peace!
Carolkey, I'm with you! I am looking forward to teaching my kids how to read, write, add, subtract, etc. I am looking forward to their faces when they understand something I've been trying to explain! I am looking forward to watching them explore and discover a new world right in front of my eyes. I am excited about exploring with them and learning right along with them all while reveling in the looks of joy and fascination on their faces!
Although, it would be nice to not have to referee for a while... but they are only 4 and not quite 2 so it comes with the ages!
I agree with the other homeschool moms, that a post like this makes me sad. I enjoy being with my child everyday, teaching her to read, write, about history....talking, laughing. Childhood is over so very soon; I'm thankful that I get to be here for every moment of it!
These all seem more geared towards SAHMs :(
