Father's Day CardsAs Father's Day nears, you may be left scrambling for the perfect gift. Dads can be tough dudes to shop for no doubt, but all of them like to hear just what they mean to their children on this special day. So a homemade card is the perfect touch.

But what to say? How do you put into words just how special and unique your own father is or help your children do the same for their dad? Why with a poem, of course. Here are four Father's Day poems to fill your kid's Father's Day card ... and yours.

Here's a sweet one that works well for most any variety of father, well, except the deadbeat ones:

A Father Means ... (from Fathers.net)

A Father means so many things ...
An understanding heart,
A source of strength and of support
Right from the very start.
A constant readiness to help
In a kind and thoughtful way.
With encouragement and forgiveness
No matter what comes your way.
A special generosity and always affection, too
A Father means so many things
When he's a man like you ...

Here's a great one from a daughter:

A Little Girl Needs Daddy poem (from PoemsforFree.com)

A little girl needs Daddy
For many, many things:
Like holding her high off the ground
Where the sunlight sings!
Like being the deep music
That tells her all is right
When she awakens frantic with
The terrors of the night.

Like being the great mountain
That rises in her heart
And shows her how she might get home
When all else falls apart.

Like giving her the love
That is her sea and air,
So diving deep or soaring high
She'll always find him there.

If the dad is the sentimental type, this one is sure to bring a tear to his eye.

Walk a Little Slower Daddy (from Scrapbook.com)

"Walk a little slower, Daddy," said a little child so small.
"I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast, sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower Daddy, for you are leading me.

Someday when I'm all grown up, you're what I want to be.
Then I will have a little child who'll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right, and know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy, for I must follow you!!"

If you want to make dad laugh and he's a technical sort of guy, you can include this video, "Dad Life," in an electronic card. It's a rap, but that's just a poem set to music, right? It went viral last year, but it's timeless:
