Dads get a bad rap a lot of the time. On shows like Teen Mom, they are mostly absent or cruel; on sitcoms they are often portrayed as hapless at best and sometimes much, much worse. We hear more, it seems, about "deadbeat dads" than good ones.
That is why this video has made me so happy. What could be cuter than a little girl singing a heartfelt song with her daddy? And it doesn't hurt the cuteness factor if the song has lyrics like "you're the apple of my eye."
Jorge and Alexa Narvaez made the video of their duet of "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes at about 11 p.m. one night after about 10 practice runs.
See it below:
It doesn't get much sweeter than this. According to his YouTube page, Narvaez is "just a father of two working my way through college." What I like about the duet is that it's not some schmaltzy "Butterfly Kisses" thing where you know it's the first time the father paid attention to his kid in over a year.
Narvaez and his little girl seem very comfortable and at ease with one another. Just a good dad, teaching his daughter how to keep rhythm and sing.
As an aside, Narvaez is a single dad (though I am guessing that won't be true long) and although he and the mother of his children are "close," according to his Facebook page, he is doing a lot of this on his own.
She is a lucky little girl to have such a devoted and creative daddy. And of course, he is lucky to have a little girl with an awesome memory for lyrics who can belt out a song with such passion. This made my day. Hope it does the same for you!
What did you think of the duet?
