Hey Bullies, Leave Willow Palin Alone!

Willow PalinOh that Palin family, always making headlines. Sarah's middle child, Willow, has recently made waves by posting gay slurs on a peer's Facebook page because he insulted Mama Grizzly's TV show. She posted:

Haha your so gay. I have no idea who you are, But what I've seen pictures of, your disgusting ... My sister had a kid and is still hot.

Followed by "Faggot!"

And of course, haters are quickly jumping on it, creating Facebook pages about how she's a homophobic trashy bitch. Geezus, harsh much?

Now, it may be over 10 years since I was her age, but I'm not so far removed from the teenage mind that I can't recognize slang when I see it. For those of you that clearly are, a 16-year-old saying, "You're so gay" is the equivalent of "You're stupid." And the term "faggot" means "jerk." Nothing more, nothing less. So chill. Kids say a lot worse things than this. The only difference here is that, because of the spotlight she's under, she's getting ridiculed through articles and Facebook pages targeting her as a homophobic bitch for it.

Now if that ain't bullying, I don't know what is.

And the sad thing is that it's adults that are putting her through the ringer -- it's no longer just an immature teenage quarrel. As if being 16 wasn't hard enough, right? Let the kid learn what's appropriate and what's not, like every other kid gets to do, through life experience, not public chastising.

In fact, I applaud her. Though her words wouldn't have been the terminology of my choosing -- only because I am aware of how serious true gay bullying is, which this is not -- I think it's pretty awesome that she's sticking up for her mom's TV show. If my mom was running around chasing polar bears and fly fishing on a reality show (or whatever it is they do on there), I would hide my head in embarrassment. Palin Power.

What do you think of Willow Palin's remarks? Think that she meant them in a homophobic manner? Is her age an excuse, or should she have known better?
