Taylor Momsen Blames Parents (Rightly) for Everything

April Peveteaux

taylor momsenIf it weren't for a brief Gossip Girl obsession (okay, season 1 and 2), I wouldn't even know who Taylor Momsen was.

Not for lack of trying on her part -- the 17-year-old is constantly in the news for being a jerk. Also, her name is Taylor, like everyone else her age, so she gets lumped in with those other superstars who seem to know how to behave.

The latest from the angry, sex tape-watching teenager has Momsen going straight for the jugular and blaming mom and dad for her 'effed up life.

In other words, she's behaving like a typical teen instead of following the traditional path of drug binges, rehab, comeback, memoirs, and finally, crying on Oprah's couch about horrible parents.

While she's going about it in the wrong order, Momsen is right.

Most teenagers blame their parents for their unhappiness. I know I did. (Of course I was right, since I had a 10 p.m. weekend curfew and NEVER got to go out during the week. Ahem.) So it's no surprise that Momsen recently said she was miserable and upset because of her parents. Specifically, for being stage parents.

My parents signed me up with Ford [modeling agency] at the age of two. No 2-year-old wants to be working, but I had no choice.

It's true. Have you seen this adorable Shake 'n' Bake commercial? That's a toddler Taylor.

At 3 years old it's unlikely Momsen asked to be an actress. Although, you never know. I've seen some pretty precocious kids. But even if she did, that's when your child gets to play. Childhood is so fleeting, kids should be allowed to be kids, not performers.

The work and time that go into a professional acting job aren't conducive to raising a well-adjusted child. It would also be a full-time job for both parents to make sure a child remained even-keeled while they were living in an alternate universe.

There are plenty of examples of strong-minded child stars all grown up, but there are even more that stand out for all the wrong reasons. Taylor Momsen is one of those. Since she recognizes it, hopefully she'll take control of her destiny, rather than let it lead her down the dark path she's already been taking.

Do you think it's Taylor Momsen's parents' fault she's out of control?
