5 Best Bands on 'Yo Gabba Gabba' [Video]

Now, there are those who crap on Yo Gabba Gabba, but I am not one of them. I have always been a fan of stoner kids' shows -- Lidsville, anyone? How about Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, stalwart companion to my college hangovers? Now that I actually have kids to watch them with, my amusement is even greater.

Yo Gabba Gabba has cool cred. The creators, Scott Schultz and Christian Jacobs, are old-school skate punks who hung out with Spike Jonze and Tony Hawk, and they met DJ Lance while Jacobs was on tour with his band, The Aquabats.

The Hollywood guest stars are fun, but it’s the indie-rock music acts that give the show its edge, giving both parents and kids something to chew on and working on two different levels. Flavorwire has come up with a list of some of the best musical performances from Yo Gabba Gabba. But I have my own favorites -- check them out.

The Roots, “Lovely, Love My Family”
The Roots are about the hippest band around these days. They’ve got silky-smooth vocals, a horn section, and the amazing percussion of ?uestlove. When the house band for Jimmy Fallon isn’t on a kids’ show, they do some of the sexiest jams you’ve ever heard -- so spending time with them when I’m feeling sleep-deprived and put-upon is just rejuvenating. Besides, they returned the favor!

Chromeo, “Nice n’ Clean”
It’s like someone had an orgy with EBN-OZN, the Flight of the Conchords, and Rockwell, and gave birth to the bastard child in a time machine set to 1985. And added soap. This just cracks me up every time it comes on.

Cornelius, “Count Five or Six”
Is it a crazy ecstasy flashback? An ADD remedy? An SNL parody? I dunno, but it made my daughter run around in circles! Way too cool for school!

Hot Hot Heat, “Time to Go Outdoors”
Loved these guys and their shouty-singy vocals when “This Town” came out, so hearing them sing about frolicking in nature is a treat.

The Killers, “Spaceship Adventure”
They couldn’t use their real name, but the minute I heard their highly produced sound, I knew who “Brandon, Ronnie, Mark, and Dave” really were. Gorgeous, lush, and fun.
