Since the school shooting massacres at Columbine, Virgina Tech and other places, mothers across the country have become keenly aware that school can become a place of extreme violence. In order to stay sane, however, we tuck our fears away, and send our kids off to school each morning with the hope that the children they are surrounded by are not a bunch of gun-toting crazies.
Unfortunately, one Ft. Lauderdale mother's nightmare has come true--and this time at the hands of a young female peer of her daughter's. According to an MSNBC report, Teah Wimberly,
15, was charged with first-degree murder and discharging
a weapon on school property in the death of Amanda Collette, also 15.
At present the motive is unknown. Children and the community are
stunned. No, the violence has not escaped our girls.
