Watching our kids grow out of nursery rhymes stage is depressing.
But this week my soon-to-be kindergartner daughter and I have been giggling together over The Eensy Weensy Spider Freaks Out (Big Time).
It's the book for the kids who hear the spider washed out the water spout and then asked: What happens next?
Taking up the torch passed on by the hilarious Jon Scieszka with his twisted look at fairy tales, Troy Cummings has translated a time old toddler tale into elementary school sillydom with just enough bite to make this palatable for the adults.
Eensy isn't climbing back up the spout -- after all, if she'd had a neck, she'd have broken it.
So what's a spider to do but practice getting back on the horse?
This wise-cracking spider tackling the world can be your "hey kid, you can do anything" story this week, or you can simply revel in the chance to relive the nursery rhyme era with your kid who is just growing too fast.
Are your kids still singing the Eensy Weensy Spider?
