You don't take it lightly if your kids report that there's a "creepy" man watching them while they play during recess, but what if YOU are that creep? Sounds strange, but that was the case of mistaken identity that happened to one dad, after his kids told him a stranger kept staring at them while at school. Once the dad urged his sons' school to get involved, however, he realized it was actually a hilarious misunderstanding.

  • Like any good parent, the second the dad heard that there was a "pervert" watching his sons at school, he sprung into action.

The whole thing started when the dad's 7-year-old twin boys told him about a "creepy man who sat it the parking lot at school and stared at them," he wrote on Reddit. So the dad called the school and reported the stranger so his kids would no longer have to worry.

Meanwhile, "I've been doing electrical repairs on a facility near my sons' school, and each day I park my work van in the school parking lot to eat lunch and use the WiFi," he continued. "I wave to my sons as they go from one building to the building housing the cafeteria for lunch."

    Get the picture?

"If you're realizing that I'm the 'pervert' I reported, congratulations, you're officially sharper than me," he wrote.

Of course, this is only funny in hindsight. "I didn't realize it until 3 police cars surrounded my work van," he wrote. "After about a 30 minute conversation with the police and the principal, they decided I was a harmless moron and decided to let me go. I was, however, asked not to park my van there for lunch anymore."

  • Some people were baffled by how dumb this dad was for not realizing that he was the "pervert" sooner.

"I mean this in the nicest way possible, but how can you be so stupid haha," one person asked him in the comments.

"The guy has two seven year olds that couldn't recognize him in a hat a sunglass for weeks," another person added.

"Extremely stupid," another person judged. "How do you not ask any follow up questions? 'What time of day was this?' would be one of my first questions. The second they say its during lunch, I'd be like...wtf...I was there during lunch? What did he look like? What kinda car?"

And one person asked the important question: "You never even questioned why they didn’t wave back?" the person wrote.

Many people wondered why the dad was wearing his hardhat while he ate his lunch, but later in the thread he clarified that "Our company safety guy roams the city and fines anyone he catches not wearing one on the job site. I just wear it constantly during work hours now," he wrote.

  • But other people thought the story was downright hilarious.

"Until I read this I never thought I could be so amused by a story about a possible pedophile in a mysterious van being surrounded by cops at a school," one person joked.

"Congratulations ya played yourself," another person wrote.

And a third person agreed -- this post was gold. "Unlike most posts on here, it’s innocent, not disgusting, and doesn’t end horribly, and I think that’s what makes it so great. This is definitely one of my favorite posts on here as well," the comment read.

Luckily, both the dad and his wife seemed to have a sense of humor about the situation. "My wife constantly tells me that I'm basically a Simpsons character," he later added.
