Parents Are Sharing Their Toddlers' Most Ridiculous Bedtime Requests & It's Too Real

There's nothing cuter than a sleeping baby, but there's also nothing more hellacious than the effort it takes to get him there. Whether they get out of bed 17 times for extra hugs, a fifth drink of water, and a snack in the blue cup, or they make strange requests -- like my 3-year-old who will only sleep with a fingerless glove on his left hand, Michael Jackson–style -- little kids have some seriously weird bedtime routines. After one parent shared his kid's strangest bedtime request on Reddit, others chimed with their own struggles, and the resulting thread is basically #toddlerlife in a nutshell.

  • It all started with a Redditor called Fishsocks, who wrote that his toddler refused to sleep without holding an orange.

The unnamed parent followed up his weird story by asking other parents to share their own kids' "oddball routines" -- and boy, did they deliver.

  • Unsurprisingly, there are lots of other toddlers out there who like to hold random, inanimate objects in their sleep.

Some kids have a lovey, and some kids have a random tree nut that could possibly be a choking hazard.

  • Other kids have traded in their stuffed animals for a few ... utensils.

  • Whatever works, right?

  • Some kids like to hold actual body parts while they doze.

  • Umm ... ouch?

  • And, who doesn't like to go to sleep cradling a nice belly button?

At least, unlike a beloved stuffed animal, you'll never accidentally lose the belly button in a Chili's or on the floor of the Target bathroom.

  • Other kids like to sleep in totally random places, like on their nightstand.

Who needs a comfy mattress when you've got a rock-hard table that's barely the size of your torso? Makes perfect sense.

  • And you can never discount the seasonal doormat as a cozy place to curl up and catch some ZZZs.

In short, toddlers are nuts. But you knew that already. The important takeaway from these confessions is that every other toddler is just as nonsensical as yours probably is. At the end of the day, anything works as long as they finally go the f*ck to sleep.
