The year is 2017. We've got unicorn frappuccinos and cell phones that put the entire world at our fingertips. Yet, somehow we still haven't evolved past the point of being uncomfortable with a woman using her own breast to feed her hungry baby. Pretty f-cking ridiculous, right? Yeah, this mom thinks so too. Avery Lane is a new mom who was recently asked to cover up while she was trying to nurse her 2-month-old son, and her epic clapback has moms all over the Internet cheering in solidarity.

In a post on Facebook, Lane says she was breastfeeding her son at an H&R Block on a military base when a manager approached her and said, "Can I cover you up with a towel or something?"

Lane says she was "completely shocked" but somehow she still managed to hit the man with a zinger: "I raised my voice slightly and said, 'No, but I have a muslin if you would like to cover your face. You must not know Georgia's breastfeeding laws.'"

According to Lane, the manager responded by asking her to leave, but she was not about to go quietly. "So I then called the Military Police so they could come and inform him of them [Georgia's breastfeeding laws]," she writes. "I'm glad they came and informed him that he could not tell me to leave. Also one of the MPs told me that there is nothing wrong with a mother breastfeeding her child."

Since Lane's post went up, it's been shared almost 10,000 times, and hundreds of people have commented to offer their support. Others had a few questions about her post, including whether or not she'd use a breastfeeding cover in the future to prevent incidents like this one. Her answer? A resounding "no."

Lane also responded to people who asked why she couldn't just wait until she got home to feed her baby. Through giggles, she said in a YouTube video, "The people who say that, I don't know if they've ever nursed a baby, but my son doesn't wait until it’s convenient for me to feed him. If he's hungry, he's hungry. That's usually how it goes. I'm not going to tell him, 'Hey, let's just wait until we get home. You don't need to eat right now.' Like, no. If my child is hungry, I'm going to stop what I'm doing -- whenever, wherever -- and feed him."

And that's how it should be. It's not up to babies to change their feeding schedules in order to appease grown-ups who can't handle seeing the top half of a boob. He's a hungry baby and breastfeeding is how some babies eat, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's perfectly natural and normal. If seeing a woman feed her child makes you uncomfortable, take a nod from this mom's Facebook post and look away.
