I’ve Got No Strings

My husband and I began our relationship when we were just fifteen and sixteen years old (babies I know) and quickly fell head over heels in love. I was often told that choices we made for our lives, both together and myself as an individual, would lead to failure in life. As a born people-pleaser, there were a few years of real struggle for me, not so much because of my abilities or age but more because of the negativity projected upon me by others. It was as if I was a marionette puppet, expected to perform to the wishes of the adults in my life. To date, it was one of the hardest thing I've ever done, but I was finally brave enough to cut those strings and dance on my own.

I created my own path for my life and followed my own wishes. I made choices that I believed were the right ones for me. The freedom I felt was exhilarating and I finally felt truly happy with my life. I married my husband, Orin, at 19 years of age and now here we are with 4 beautiful children. It feels like life could not get any better than this! I can't tell you how happy I am that I forged my own path in life.

My children are still young. They are still learning and growing and, for the most part, my husband and I are still calling the shots. We are using this time to imprint lessons on them that will help them to be successful adults, when we send them out to conquer the world on their own. That's why I love watching Disney movies with the kids on our family movie nights. Disney has this amazing ability to weave important life lessons into their movies. Take Pinocchio for example. While on the surface, it's a movie about a wooden puppet named Pinocchio who embarks on fantastic adventures in a quest to become a real boy, with his faithful friend Jiminy Cricket by his side, but when you dig deeper, it is so much more. It's a lesson in honesty, listening to your conscience, being brave, truthful, and unselfish. It's a movie about wishing and believing that anything is possible.

If you haven't introduced your family to Pinocchio, now's the time to own this classic adventure! I was so excited to learn that Pinocchio will be available for the first time on Digital HD & Disney Movies Anywhere, on Blu-ray Jan 31! We already own the 70th anniversary edition of Pinocchio, but I'm really excited to be able to add it to our digital collection! It's always been one I've loved. I can remember watching Pinocchio as a child and then wishing upon a star that night as I drifted off to sleep. Now a part of the celebrated Walt Disney Signature Collection, the timeless story of Pinocchio can inspire a new generation with its masterful animation, award-winning music, unforgettable characters and exclusive, all new behind-the-scenes Bonus Extras!

As I look at our kids and think about the wishes I have for them, more than anything I pray that I don't put strings on their dreams. I hope they wish upon a star, dream big, pursue their goals and never look back. I hope they always know that I'm their biggest cheerleader, no matter how unlikely their wishes may appear to be. And oh, I can't wait to watch them soar!

What do you wish for your children?
