Pregnant Woman Goes Entire Week Without Being Body-Shamed (Yes, IRL)

Lauren Jones

One of the things about being pregnant that's just about impossible to understand -- until you're actually experiencing it -- is the constant commentary you'll receive on your body. Constant. From EVERYONE. So we can totally relate to Kentucky meteorologist Lauren Jones celebrating when she somehow managed to go for an entire week without anyone commenting on her bump or dishing out good old body shame. Cheers to that!

To celebrate this monumental occasion, Jones's co-anchor, John Boel, posted a photo of Lauren on his professional Facebook page, along with this caption:

"We are celebrating today because Lauren has gone one week without someone saying something mean to her about baby weight gain. That's a new record. Big day is only 9 weeks away!"

We are celebrating today because Lauren has gone one week without someone saying something mean to her about baby weight gain. That's a new record. Big day is only 9 weeks away!

Apparently, Joan has received plenty o' criticism about her weight gain and, of course, her maternity clothing choices from viewers.

I mean ... what? What IS it with people? Not even just the nasty ones who say outright mean things -- they are obviously sad little souls with no other way to try to make themselves feel better than being cruel to us happy folks. I'm talking about all the other people who, for some inexplicable reason, feel quite at ease commenting on a pregnant woman's body.

I will never forget standing in an elevator with several people I worked with when I was about six months pregnant. Someone -- a WOMAN and MOM, mind you -- asked me when I was due. When I told her, she pulled a shocked face, gestured at my belly, and said something to the effect of, "Oh wow! You look much further along!"

Why, thank you, lady! I already feel super svelte and glamorous over here with my rapidly disappearing ankles and my family-size bucket of Tums! I really needed to hear that! I feel totally not embarrassed now, trapped in this tiny space with my freakishly enormous belly taking up everyone's elevator space!

I'll also never forget the yoga instructor (also a woman) who took an unreasonable amount of convincing that I was not, in fact, expecting twins. Nope! Just one giant baby here in my giant belly! Honest!

Obviously, Lauren Jones up there looks fabulous -- but that's not the point. It's no one's business how big she is or how much baby weight she gains, and the fact that we even have to spell that out is just mind-boggling.

Of course, when Lauren shared this post on her own Facebook page, not everyone loved it. Some, in fact, offered brilliant insight into why people may have been rude...

"Maybe they say mean things 'cause the dress is too tight for her to be wearing."

Sigh.
