Mom Shamed for Her 'Tummy' 11 Days After Giving Birth Reminds Us She Grew a Person

Mom Giovanna Fletcher writes beautiful anti-tummy-shamming post

We live in a world where it's too easy to hide behind a computer and write mean things -- but there are still some people who have no problem making judgy comments to your face. Giovanna Fletcher recently had one of these experiences. But instead of keeping quiet, the UK mom decided to respond in the best way she knows how. Giovanna's tummy-shaming post is brilliantly written and a beautiful reminder to new moms about loving your body, no matter the dumb questions you're asked.

"Oh look, Mummy's still got her tummy."

Yup, that's what Giovanna heard. After giving birth 11 days prior, the wife and mom of three was completely dumbfounded as to why a complete stranger (a woman, BTW) would think a comment like that was okay.

After being pointed and laughed at by this mystery woman, Giovanna saw an opportunity to right a wrong, and took to Instagram to sound off.

A few days ago I had a near stranger point at my stomach, laugh and say 'Oh look, Mummy's still got her tummy'. This was eleven days after giving birth. I was so shocked I laughed. But the words have stuck with me. Obviously. It wasn't left there either as there was another comment about my face 'slimming down'. More than anything, I was baffled over the stranger's need to share her thoughts... Yes, I still have a bump. But that bump kept my little baby boy safe for a whole nine months. That bump has filled my world with even more love and light than I knew possible. That bump is a miracle worker... My bump will slowly go over time, but I'll never stop being thankful to it and my body for everything it's given me. #spreadlove â¤ï¸ï¿½ xx

As Giovanna says:

Yes, Giovanna. Yes.

Someone likely needed this boost of encouragement because she's been on the receiving end of an ignorant comment like this. A woman's body is so amazing. It's capable of doing so much, and deserves praise, not laughs or criticism.

People need to taste their words before they spew them on others. What if Giovanna was never pregnant? What if Giovanna suffered a miscarriage -- or lost her child shortly after giving birth?

You never know someone's story, and should never add commentary -- especially when it's not needed.

I love Giovanna's message. It's so empowering and will likely lift up a new mom's spirits.

Thank you for your message, mama. So sorry you had to experience something like this.
