The Moment This Mom Hears Her Baby's Donated Heart Beating in a 4-Year-Old Girl Is Everything

heather clark, jordan drakeHeather Clark suffered the ultimate tragedy when her 7-month-old son Lukas was killed in 2013, and she didn't want to feel like her baby died in vain. So Clark donated his organs, saving the lives of three children in the process. And through her sacrifice, Lukas lives on: Years later, Clark got to hear her son's heart beat again -- in the body of a 4-year-old girl.

Sweet little Lukas died from injuries he received at the hands of a babysitter who snapped when the baby "wouldn't stop crying." A horrible, unthinkable loss, but one that gave little Jordan Drake her life (Jordan was just 18 months old when she received Lukas's heart). I can't imagine that Clark was able to find much comfort in anything following her son's death, but knowing that his organs saved other children provided something of a silver lining -- so much so that when Clark made contact with little Jordan's family around Thanksgiving of last year, she called it "the best Christmas present [she] could have asked for."

"One day I will meet her and squeeze her so tightly!" Clark posted on Facebook at the time about Jordan.

That day finally came last Friday, when Clark met Jordan for the first time at Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she was able to actually listen to her son's heartbeat!

This picture captures that unbelievably emotional moment perfectly:

The look on her face! If that doesn't give you a lump in your throat, you might be a robot. Speaking of which, this split-screen of Jordan and Lukas is just overwhelmingly beautiful:

More from The Stir: Parents Who Donated Their Child's Heart Gave My Son the Gift of Life

Such gorgeous children! As a mother, I'll admit it's so hard to get past the tragic loss part of this story, which is why I admire Clark so much for trying to find something positive in what happened to her son, and for remaining so loving and open. Here's hoping Jordan lives a long and happy life in honor of Lukas!
