My Light. My Rock. My Best Friend.

Bobbie and her mom

My Mom. What can I say about her without talking about all that she has done for me? She is my light, my rock, my best friend. When I was young I didn’t like her. She was so strict and to me an old fuddy duddy. I wish I knew then what I know now. That no matter what my Mom would always have my back.

My Light
People look at me weird when I say that my Mom is my light, but she really is. I have been through some dark days in my life and every time I needed a little light to show me the way, she was there. Always there with a smile, words of wisdom, and a hug. She held me when I cried and kicked my butt when I was being stupid. She was my light at the end of the tunnel, the light that showed me the way, and sometimes the light that kept me from entering the darkness permanently.

My Rock
I don’t know of a time when my Mom wasn’t there for me. The birth of my kids, a failed marriage, failed relationships, and more failed career choices than I can count. No matter what was going on in my life, my Mom was there. My rock to hold onto during the storm of my life. Unsinkable and unmovable. Whenever I felt like I was sinking I could grab ahold of her and tread my way through life. Corny as it sounds, it is true.

My Best Friend
She is truly my best friend. I can tell her anything and she seems to always have an answer. She always says advice doesn’t come from being a Mom, it comes from wisdom. That she has been through it all and knows what to say. I believe that because there hasn’t been a time when she hasn’t known what to say. She has helped me more times than I can count. She makes me laugh, makes me see the other point of view, and sometimes makes me crazy but through it all she has my back. She is my shopping partner, my singing partner, and my long talks partner.

I am so blessed that my girls get to glean her wisdom and that one day they will know the same thing I do. My Mom is an amazing woman who does it all. She has a generous heart and an amazing soul. Her level of empathy sometimes boggles my mind. She is a friend, a teacher, a nurse, a chef, a housewife, a nana, and does it all with grace and dignity.

I have been so blessed to have an amazing woman in my life, and have her as my Mom. I don’t know what I did to get so lucky but I am glad that God thought I was worthy of her, because she is my biggest inspiration and when she is no longer with us I will have some amazing memories and one heck of a guardian angel for the rest of my life.

This Mother’s Day I am putting my heart to paper and giving my Mom the very best from Hallmark!
