She's My Mother

Mothers.

Gotta love them. Beyond the realms of providing for us, they are our moms. Best friends? Sure. Confidants? Absolutely. Most of all, they are ours.

My mom means the world to me. I can see her in me time and time again. I kinda roll my eyes at the thought of me sounding like my mother when talking to my kids, but well... her ways are in me and there's pretty much nothing that can be done about that. She's my voice.

My mom has taught me to pray without ceasing. When I first moved in with her and my sister's family, we had an incident in which I thought my little boy had gone missing. I was already on the phone with emergency services when she sat down to pray. As she bowed her head, she saw two little feet sticking out of the sofa. She's my prayer warrior.

My mom and her sayings (in Spanish) go hand in hand. There isn't a conversation between us in which she doesn't throw a dicho, or phrase, about whatever situation that may be happening. They're annoying because they are so true. And trust me, she has one for everything and anyone. And some are funny as heck! Especially when it comes to teaching her grandkids about life. She's my laughter.

My mom has eight grandkids. Grandmama, Gmom, Grandma and Grandmother have been her names. And she will answer to all of them. She's the only grandparent my kids have grown up with and well, they both are equally spoiled with love, gratitude, traditions and culture. My kids are half Asian and have taught her how to embrace the Filipino culture just as she has taught them to embrace the Mexican culture. My kids and her go hand in hand. She's my rock.

The best thing that has happened to me, is my mami. I may not have always felt this way, but mark my words, this is how I feel now and forever.

She, my friends, is my everything.

This is me, Putting My Heart to Paper. You too can write a special something to your mama by Putting Your Heart to Paper with Hallmark.

What special something will you write to your mama this year?
