Moms Need Time Outs Too: Challenge Yourself!

waiting roomIt's amazing to me how since becoming a mom, I now look forward to things I used to dread and despise. Take going to the dentist, for example. I used to loathe the whole experience; now I actually get a little giddy when I see my appointment on the calendar. Ditto for the gynecologist, dermatologist, and pretty much any other medical professional I have to see ALONE.

Alone, as in not with my children in tow. As long as I'm flying solo, I don't even mind long waits anymore whereas I used to sit boiling mad about them daring to waste my time. In fact, I now welcome the wait, as there are magazines to be read in peace! I'd let others cut if I could so I could sit there without someone pulling on my arm, saying "mom!" 8,000 times, or asking for yet another cup of milk. The thought of any potential pain is numbed by the sweet feeling of freedom.

In other words these formerly dreadful visits now translate into "me time" -- a pathetic version of it, but I take what I can get these days.

I dearly love my children, but in my previous life, I relished time alone -- time to think and clear my head, and just ... be. Two children later, there's not so much be-ing these days beyond the waiting rooms.

But root canals really shouldn't be considered leisure activities, and there are plenty of other ways moms can carve out a few minutes for themselves. It can be challenging, for sure, but it can -- and should -- be done.

CafeMom wants to make it a little easier with the Make Time for Mom Challenge. Once you sign up, between now and Mother's Day, each day you'll receive an email with a new activity suggestion for moms. You'll also be registered for some great gifts that would make a little mom time even more enjoyable, like a $250 SpaFinder gift card and a $100 gift card from Reebok.

So head on over and sign up, you've got nothing to lose ... other than your burning desire for dental work.

How do you carve out "me time" for yourself? Do you?
