Is It Okay to Have a Favorite Kid?

Mother of 2Parents always seem to have a favorite child. I'm 7 months pregnant and I cannot wait to meet my son -- my second child. And when I look at my 3-year-old daughter, I often wonder how I could possibly love someone as much as I love her.

It's often obvious that some parents love one child more. Maybe it's that they love them equally, but like one more. Still, it's starting to scare me. Don't your parents have a favorite?

My grandmother told me that somehow, some way even though your heart is filled with so much love for your first, you just end up having enough love for more.

Maybe it's just life -- people bond with certain people more than others. I just never want to feel that way about my kids. And maybe that's why I'm relieved to be having a boy this time. I always tell my daughter she's my favorite girl in the whole world. Now I can keep saying it. I can tell my son that he's my favorite boy.

I know of parents who tell their children that one of them is their favorite. I'm not sure that's okay, unless they are secretly telling all of them that -- which is also not okay. I know that when I was a kid I loved to think that I was the favorite daughter, niece, grandchild. I'm just not sure that's a healthy way to think.

Does anyone out there have a secret favorite kid? Or do you know that your parents had one?
