Valentine's Day is tomorrow and you're all ready with your homemade chocolate truffles and pink frosted heart cookies and your red velvet cupcakes, right? NO?!? Yeah, me neither. I spent the weekend running errands, cleaning the bathroom, and trying to sort out our growing pile of mis-matched socks.
Valentine's Day is encroaching and there's nothing we can do to stop it. Every year it pops up here in the middle of February, and every year we either clamour for dinner reservations with our lover boys or drink to our single heart's content alone on the couch. I mean, that's what everyone says you do, but really, why would I sit on the couch when lying in bed with my Merlot is so much more comfy and cozy. Please.
Get ready to shower your loved ones in cards, flowers, cute sayings, and of course, chocolate. It's that time of year when we can drink champagne and chow down on sweets in the name of love. I, for one, will totally be getting in on that action. But instead of buying a box of expensive chocolate truffles, I'm going to try my hand at making my own this year.

Know how I know someone loves me? They tell me so. Know how else? They hand- feed me chocolate molten lava cake while the hired in-house masseuse goes to town on my upper back. I'm sure you agree that the moist, fudge-filled little mini-cakes are the best thing in the world, so show someone you love them this Valentine's Day by whipping up this fantastic recipe. Best part? It's way easier than you think it is. Seriously. From start to eat, it'll take you less than 30 minutes. Masseuse not included.
Anything better than breakfast in bed? If you ask me, then yes, yes there is. Breakfast in bed is messy. And hard to eat. Between all the pillows and the breakable glassware and the whole crumbs issue, I find the gesture to be highly overrated. However! Breakfast doesn't have to be served in bed to be considered romantic. There are all kinds of fun and quixotic ways to serve up the most important meal of the day that won't leave you worried about staining your sheets or getting oatmeal on the lampshade.
I've always loved making unusual valentines to express the goofiness of my love. One year I made my husband a basket filled with pink donuts and toothbrushes; it showed I wanted to please his palate, but I also cared about his dental health. Another year I just took a check from our checkbook and made it out to him for the amount of "one million blow jobs." It made him laugh and acknowledged the fact that after five years of togetherness we had become exceedingly, comically blunt with each other.
Looking for something sweet for the sweeties in your life as Valentine's Day approaches? Look no further than these delicious and lovely vanilla bean and cherry swirled icebox cookies.
What to make for breakfast on Valentine's Day? Red velvet cupcakes would be divine -- but if that's a little too decadent for you, how about red velvet waffles! And you might as well add some protein with some cream cheese frosting and a handful of pecans, right? I think I'm in love with this breakfast.
