If this was last year, I might say that the only people who compete in beauty pageants are dumb blondes. But now, in 2011, I'm changing my stereotype to dumb blondes and bald chicks. You heard me.

This weekend, Sandra Dubose-Gibson was crowned the 2011 Mrs. Black North Carolina. (Note the "Mrs." She's a married mother of two.) And she's completely bald. As in no hair. Not-a-one. Nothin' there. You know, kind of like Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell.

Like Kayla, Sandra also suffers from alopecia -- a disease that causes the body's immune system to attack hair follicles. But unlike Kayla, Sandra opted to compete without a wig. Bold. I like it.

Would I be able to do the same thing? Mmm, probably not.

    Before the Mohawk

A week ago, I would have told you nothing gets me more crazy looks than being a woman with a shaved head. I was wrong. Nothing gets me more crazy looks than being a woman with a mohawk.

I found out on Sunday, when I ventured out of my house with a head shaved save for one strip of (freshly dyed) blond hair down the middle. And until March 11, I will continue to draw the looks, and the laughs. Because I'm keeping the mohawk for three weeks.

  • Don't Wash Your Jeans, Freeze Them

I've definitely worn a pair of jeans for a few weeks before washing them. Sometimes because I don't feel like they need it, and sometimes because I prefer the baggier fit. Who likes clean jeans? They're stiff and tight and somehow mine always end up shorter.

But a student at the University of Alberta decided he didn't want to wash his jeans, for like, a year. And they were skinny jeans, to boot. Ew?

Student Josh Le chose to do this experiment to see if he could break in the tight jeans so much that they'd hug the contours of his body. Really? That's why he wanted to do this? Dude. Lame. Come on.

But the experiment ended up serving a different, rather interesting, purpose.

You might have wondered how I find specific clothing and accessories for this blog.

The truth is, I have a very good tool -- one I probably should have shared with you all a lot sooner, because I use it for myself as often as I use it to write She's Still Got It.

It's a shopping search engine called ShopStyle.com and it has revolutionized my online shopping experience.

Today, I'm going to show you how to make ShopStyle work for you.

There was a fashion show in Brooklyn this weekend ... a woefully ill-conceived fashion show. Models were wearing various items, including a wedding dress, crafted out of fur.

    Nutria fur, to be exact.

Have you seen a nutria? They are, to put it lightly, not a lovely animal: big nose, enormous orange teeth (yes, orange teeth), and a pronounced stench are their hallmarks. Not exactly characteristics that make one say, "I must have that animal's pelt for my own."

They are ravaging the swamps of Louisiana, eating away the plants and endangering the whole ecosystem, so hunters are paid to kill them.

And inexplicably, they've become the new "it" fur. Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta used them in pieces recently, and it abounds on Etsy ... used in merkins. Merkins, for those still blissfully ignorant of this knowledge, are pubic-hair wigs.

To be blunt: Are people effing crazy?

I look at a lot of celebrity photos for this gig.

Most Hollywood starlets are pretty hit or miss when it comes to fashion, but a select few nearly always seem to get it right.

One of those style-savvy stars is Reese Witherspoon, whom I think of as the ultimate style icon for the busy mom.

Whether she's dressed up or dressed down, Reese nearly always looks incredible, and many of her outfits could easily be copied by ... um, me and you!

Read on to see four more of my favorite style icons, then tell me all about yours in the comments!

Months and months ago (for the record), I tried to warn you about a new trend coming down the pike ...

    Socks worn with heels.

I even donned a few pairs for a Style Dare, much to your horror. The look was soundly mocked by She's Still Got It readers. Words like "Ew, ew" and "Hideous" and even "Me no likey" were used to describe my apparent fashion faux pas.

Well, I've got news for you, ladies. This fall? Ankle socks with sandals, platform heels, and booties are everywhere. EVERYWHERE!!

    MWAH HA HA HA HAAAAAA!!

Ever since I turned 30, I have started to have the sneaking suspicion that my bikini days are numbered and that I should be shopping more Lands' End and less Forever 21.

The bikini look is an elusive one, but it usually has something to do with the following ingredients:

    tall tan young lovely

Or wait, maybe those are the lyrics to "The Girl From Ipanema ..."

But what about us mamas in our 30s? Are we relegated to the vintage bathing attire of the 1920s or the flowered bathing skirts our grandmothers wore?

My family went to the South Carolina coast for vacation a couple of weeks ago and one afternoon, we ventured into Myrtle Beach, which was about 15 minutes from where we were staying.

    Can you say Tackyville?

I have never seen more tacky, tasteless ladies' t-shirts on display in my life, which led me to wonder: Who's buying these things?

Besides me, I mean. Yes, folks, the plethora of hideous beachwear inspired me to buy some of my own and wear it while out and about for an oceanside Style Dare you won't soon forget!

Of course, as you can see from this photo, tacky t-shirts can be found in more places than seedy beachside t-shirt shops. Check out some of the tackiest women's t-shirts I've ever seen (the ones I could show you, without totally offending you, anyway) and get the deets on my latest Style Dare after the jump ...
